ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
FEBRUARY 23, 2012
OKOTOKS HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTRE

As the Chair of Chapter 4 I am calling all of the members of the Chapter to attend this very important meeting. We have a few important decisions to make as a group and also some very important information to pass along to all of you. We will also be recognizing the following individuals for Long Service.

BARGAINING SURVEYS ARE YOUR VOICE FOR NEGOTIATIONS
I am encouraging every member of our Chapter to fill out a bargaining survey. It is the major voice that you have to let us know your desires for the articles which will be negotiated with our employer starting in the New Year. I am giving everyone in the chapter one last chance to fill out the bargaining survey before Christmas. If you have filled one out thank you, if you need to get a survey from me then please call or email me for your survey. The survey's need to be sent to me. You may use the inter-hospital mail system to forward your survey's to me. Also, I will be coming around to all of your sites on Friday to pick up any surveys that may have accumulated at your site. Keep your voice loud, fill out a bargaining survey.

I would like to thank everyone who came out to our annual Christmas Social. It was very well attended and we were joined by our sisters and brothers from Chapter 5. Thank you for your donations to the EMT toy drive for the older teens they were very well received and will makes many young peoples Christmas better.

Thank-you everyone for the items donated at the Christmas Social. I took all of them to the miracle room in High River. Captain Nyree was very grateful and said that was great because they never get anything for teens. You all have made someones Christmas better. Thank-you again.

CHRISTMAS SOCIAL
We are going to be holding our annual Christmas Social on Monday, December 5 at 5:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Turner Valley. We will be joined by our brothers and sisters from the newly created Chapter 5 in celebrating the Christmas season. Spouses, significant others, or adult companions are welcome to join us, their meal will cost them $15.00. All of our members will eat for free. Please no children. We are collecting toys for the local Emergency Services toy drive, with a focus on gifts for the older teenager. If you have not sent in your bargaining survey by then, please bring it along. This is not a formal meeting so mileage will not be paid, but having said that, we will still pass along any news that we may have prior to supper. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

NEW FACES ON THE CHAPTER EXECUTIVE
The 2011 AGM has come and gone, with it is a new executive with a new mandate to improve communication for the general membership. Let me take this opportunity to introduce all members, to the new executive. Bonnie Gostola, will serve another two year term as your chair. Michelle Goldstone has taken on the position of the Vice-Chair. Ellen Rensby will continue on as the Treasurer. Finally, in the position of the Secretary, we welcome Louise Hart. We are now a full executive of four, up from last year's three. Thank-you to Donna Lyons for her commitment over the past two terms, in the position of Vice Chair. Her dedication tyou, the members, was always her first priority and she will be missed. Congratulations to all of the Long Service Award winners who attended the AGM and received their certificates and pins.
Looking forward into the future, are members should be seeing some needed improvement in the communication between the executive and the members. We are coming into some very interesting and possibly challenging times. Information will be tantamount to the success of any actions taken in the union. This is the final year of a four year collective agreement, so look for the start of the bargaining process once we get through the summer.
Things coming up in the near future and to look for: Nurses Week, AUPE GSS/AUX Nursing BBQ's and the swimming pool party and potluck picnic.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING APPROACHING FAST

March 15th is approaching fast and it is that time of year again. The AGM is set to begin at 4:30 pm. the Board Room of the High River Hospital. The Board Room is located on the third floor of the hospital. It is an important meeting as this is an election year. Come out and be informed on what is going on in the chapter, as well, as the union. We will be electing a new executive, local council members, an area council rep., a OHS Rep, and of course, nominees to the next AUPE Convention in October. Cristmas Meeting Set

All of the chapter members are invited to attend the annual Christmas Supper and Meeting on Thursday, December 2, 2010. We will be meeting to update all that is happening in our Chapter, Local and AUPE. Afterword, we will enjoy a wonderful supper as prepared by a couple of our fellow members. The meeting will begin at
6:30 PM, supper will follow. This year we are asking every member to donate a toy for the local toy drive. Look for the sign up sheets in the next week or so, then please sign up so we can get an idea of how many will be in for supper.

Summer 2010 Barbecues

June 21/2010
High River Hospital was the site on this day for the Chapter 04,Local 45,GSS Local 95 joint barbecue. It went very well and hopefully will become an every year event. Local Council sent a door prize of an AUPE watch which was won by Peggy Smithson. Our chapter had two door prizes, Norlee won the cooler and Bertha won the Dairy Queen gift certificate. Everyone that attended seemed to enjoy the beef on a bun. Glen Scott VP,Brenda Williams MSO, Joy Hanson Local secretary, and Joanne Zawada
local PE were the guests.

June 23/2010
Okotoks Health and Wellness was the site on this day. We had a large turnout of our members here it was great to see. Michell Goldstone won the Aupe watch at this site. Barb Neufeld won the cooler and MaryJane Fisher won the Dairy Queen gift cert. Glen Scott VP,Joy Hanson local secretary, Susan Seitz local treasurer were the guests.

June 24/2010
Black Diamond Hospital was the last site for our Chapter and was also well attended. Janice Howie won the watch,Nancy Lowten won the cooler and Kelsey Snell won the Dairy Queen gift cert. Sandy Kyle VP, Jennifer Cappis Local vice-chair,Susan Seitz local tresurer were the guests.

CHAPTER AGM SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 24, 2010

Chapter 4 will be holding its Annual General Meeting on March 24th, 2010. The meeting is to be held at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre, in Okotoks at 7:00 pm. Refreshments and goodies will be served.

Look forward to meeting a few new stewards and hopefully nominate a few more to help represent the membership. We will also be nominating members to attend AUPE Convention in October. Chair talked on convention, stating that it was an election year, The members voted for a New President and 6 Vice president.

At the AGM several people were nominated to be stewards.We now have several new stewards and they are Louise Hart, Darlene Keith, Michelle Goldstone, and Ellen Rensby.
Treasurers Report
New Business
Chair talked about the curling tournament the union is having in March and if anyone wanted to attend they were to let her know. She also spoke on the new echo committee and placed a challenge to all sites to collect and recycle old papers,bottles and cans.
Healthcare Conference
Stan Bateman spoke to this. The conference is going to be held in Calgary this year. The applications to attend will be out shortly.
Vice President Erez Raz spoke to the members also. He spoke on the unions stand on cutbacks,wage freezes and rollbacks. The union will not accept any of these as we have a contract and we will not agree to change it at this time. Raz also told the members about the standing committees and how they could become members on these committees. Raz also explained what the provincial executive is and what their job is. He also spoke on the closure of Alberta Hospital and hoped all the unions hard work to stop the closure was working.To sign a petition go to Alberta hospital .com. Raz also stated that aupe is meeting with other labour organizations to try and stop the government cutbacks in all the public service areas, not just healthcare.
Jim Arthurs,MSO from Calgary spoke on education. He encouraged members to take courses offered in Calgary, such as introduction to your union.
Chair Bonnie Gostola thanked all the guests for coming and invited them to stay for the Christmas social.

Christmas Meeting well Attended

Thank-you to all of the individuals who attended our Fall meeting. Every site in the chapter had representation during the meeting and 27 members enjoyed pizza and pop, while visiting with Raz Erez, one of the union's Vice Presidents. Raz carried the message of welcome and news of the future from the AUPE's newly elected President Guy Smith. Stan Bateman, Local 45 Chair was also in attendance and answered some questions from the membership. The newest stewards for the union were acknowledged and a couple more individuals have stepped forward to take the course and become stewards. The members thank you all for your commitment to maintaining the balance contained in the Collective agreement.

Christmas Meeting This Week

On Thursday, November 19th, Chapter 4 will be holding its regular fall/winter meeting at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre, at 6:30 pm.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Long service award winners.
Those individuals who will receive the 5 year service award are: Carlene Dunn, Connie Hill, Ronda Keenen, Julie Lanz, Kae Risdon, Margery Thompson, Tasha Thring, Bonnie Starke, Linda Gibbs, Dina Kisanga, Mary Morin, Janty Nyekadia Bimo, and Jodie Porter. There are two individuals receiving their 10 year service pins: Leeann Schultz and Debra Piecharka. The Twenty year recipients are Patsy Petersen and Kaye Elliott. Finally, there are four individuals receiving their 25 year pins; Gayle Fisher, Denny Head, Joanne Velting , and Rita Geerlinks. I have the Long service certificates and the Pins, should you wish to get yours please contact me and I will make arrangements to get them to you and I will have them at the meeting. I will also have the past two years of awards with me. I would like to thank all of the recipients for their continued involvement in the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees.
